The scoring rules at a glance
| Rule | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Answer value | The category’s number is added to your total. | An accepted entry worth 24 adds 24. |
| Bullseye | Your total is exactly 100. | 60 + 40 = 100. |
| Stand | Stop and retain a non-bust total. | Stand at 94 to finish with 94. |
| Three darts | The normal maximum number of submitted entries. | 20 + 30 + 45 ends at 95. |
| Bust | A total above 100 normally scores zero. | 70 + 35 = 105, a bust. |
| Tie break | At the same score, fewer darts ranks ahead. | A two-dart 100 beats a three-dart 100. |
The numbers here illustrate the rules. They are not a list of answers for the current category.
What happens when you go over 100?
The game does not subtract the excess or let you choose which earlier dart to remove. Going over the target is a bust and ordinarily leaves a score of zero. A small excess is still a bust: 101 is not better than 99.
Stand is a decision to make while the current total is still valid. It is not an undo button after an answer pushes you over 100. If you have 88 points, a value of 12 is perfect, a smaller value stays safe and anything above 12 busts.
How the redemption shot works
Some categories offer a rescue after a bust. The official rules call this a redemption shot. To succeed, you must name one accepted entry whose own value is exactly 100.
You are not looking for the amount you overshot by, or adding another value to the busted total. A total of 107 does not ask for 7 or −7. The rescue answer itself has to be worth 100.
Redemption is not available on every day. Follow the state shown in the original game rather than assuming you always have a fourth dart.
Why fewer darts matters
Score comes first. A three-dart 99 ranks ahead of a one-dart 80. When scores match, fewer darts is the deciding factor, so an early perfect finish is worth taking.
This gives you a reason to check for a one- or two-answer route before building a longer combination. It does not mean an uncertain large opening answer is always a good idea.
Different answers can share the same number
The restriction is on repeating an entry, not on repeating a numeric value. Two different names worth 50 each can make 100 if both are valid in that category. You cannot submit the same name twice to obtain the same result.
Our checkout planner treats each named entry as distinct and allows equal values. It considers at most three entries and sorts exact combinations by the number used.
Use the game’s data convention
The category can define a date, unit, ranking or special counting rule. The game’s category notes and cited source determine the value it uses. A figure found elsewhere may be more recent or based on a different definition.
